Margaret Yuan

Director, AI Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Estée Lauder Companies

Margaret is the rare executive who operates fluently on both sides of the AI conversation — the technical side where systems are built, and the business side where decisions are made and budgets are won. That bilateral fluency, developed across 17 years in global enterprise, high-growth startups, and frontier AI research, is what makes her uniquely equipped to help retail organizations move from AI ambition to AI execution.

At The Estée Lauder Companies, Margaret built the first enterprise AI strategy from scratch — across 20+ brands and 150+ countries, with no framework to inherit and no precedent to follow. She led a cross-functional team of 14, built working prototypes in RAG architecture, multi-agent systems, and multimodal LLM pipelines, and translated each into board-level strategy that drove organizational commitment at the highest levels. She also authored the first internal LLM Search Optimization playbook, adopted by 10+ global teams, improving brand discoverability in AI-generated recommendations by 20 to 40%.

As a MIT AI Safety Fellow, Margaret studies evaluation, alignment, and ambiguity — the factors that determine whether an AI strategy scales or quietly collapses. It is not a credential she lists. It is how she thinks, and it is what allows her to surface failure modes before they are built into the roadmap.

Earlier in her career, Margaret served on the executive teams of two highgrowth startups, owning P&L and growth strategy under real resource constraints. She scaled product capability 600% while cutting costs 30% — and carried that operator's discipline back into every enterprise environment she has worked in since.

She has keynoted AI workshops, run innovation programs for 100+ participants, and converted skeptics into sponsors at every level of an organization. Colleagues consistently describe her as the person who takes genuine complexity and makes it land clearly for everyone in the room — then moves the room to act.

Margaret doesn't just understand where agentic AI is going. She knows what it takes to get there without losing control of your brand, your data, or your margins along the way
