My name is Franco Cavaleri and I’m a Biomedical Researcher in Experimental Medicine and Drug Pharmacology. I speak to the visionary entrepreneurs at the White Label Expo, ready to share not just the state of the health supplement industry and its bright future, but also a personal narrative of resilience, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of impact. My path from IFBB Mr. North America Bodybuilding Champion to a nutraceutical innovator in biomedical research has been anything but conventional. It's a journey marked by adversity, breakthroughs, and a deep-seated commitment to change lives through scientific discovery.
As per the recent study by Grandview Research, the dietary supplements market, with its valuation at USD 177.50 billion in 2023 and a projected CAGR of 9.1% from 2024 to 2030, is at a pivotal moment. It's ripe for innovation, driven by a global shift towards preventive healthcare and an aging population increasingly invested in sustaining health and vitality. This landscape is where my journey and Biologic Pharmamedical’s mission intersect with the aspirations of brands looking to make a mark in the supplement industry and change people's lives.
In the 1990's while doing my undergrad in Human Nutrition at the University of British Columbia, I won the IFBB Mr. North America Body Building Title in Los Angeles. The year before winning the title I was struck with Severe Ulcerative Colitis and told I would never compete again. However, I was using all my research and studies on myself and helped mitigate the negative impact of this disease with a natural compound I had been studying called Curcumin. I was not applying the regular old curcumin extract but instead a variation I had dissected and engineered to deliver a significantly different result. I realized that I wanted to take my research further and rather than becoming a spokesperson or influencer for other supplement products, I created my own. Within a few years, Champion's Choice Nutrition soared, and in no time at all, I had sold both a sports nutrition company and a pet supplement company for a hefty sum.
This success propelled me into the career I have now and once again I decided to step back into the academic world at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine. I had already left a mark on the natural health sector with groundbreaking technologies. These innovations weren't just milestones in my career; they were beacons of hope for countless individuals seeking alternative health solutions. This was a testament to the power of resilience and the impact one can have by challenging the status quo. And it was a clear validation for the new research and development model I had conceived that takes the potent research model of allopathic medicine to hone and maximize the pharmacology of natural medicines and make them more reliable and precise. We came to call it 'Precise Pharmacology'. You can read more about it in my bestselling book Potential Within, A Guide to Nutritional Empowerment.
Embarking on my doctoral program, I was driven by a desire to deepen my knowledge and extend my contributions to health and medicine. Despite facing skepticism and prejudice that seemed insurmountably aligned against my background as a mature businessman, a family man and former bodybuilder, my commitment to my vision and the academic process remained unshaken. That's a whole other story I won't dive into right now but the key lesson here is that again, despite so many things working against me, I never gave up and I never ever feared disruption if I knew I was being true to myself, my values and my mission.
These challenges, while daunting, underscored a profound truth: real change is often met with resistance. The journey through academia taught me invaluable lessons about the intersection of politics, academia, and the natural medicine industry. It was a clear demonstration of the systemic barriers innovators face, particularly within realms dominated by conventional thought.
Yet, it is precisely these obstacles that have underscored the importance of pushing boundaries and advocating for transformative health solutions. At Biologic Pharmamedical, we stand at the confluence of natural health solutions and rigorous pharmaceutical research, embodying the highest standards in therapy optimization. Our approach not only meets the current trends but sets new ones, leveraging our extensive research and patented innovations to offer unparalleled value and distinction in the marketplace. At this intersection we must appreciate the pharmaceutical philosophies and dogma because they are imprinted with formidable research models that can be applied and repeated to demonstrate how natural medicines that are properly standardized and precisely engineered can deliver impactful relief from disease. At this intersection we must not either forget that MOST drugs today stem from and are modeled from naturally existing plant constituents, molecules and even animal derived peptides. At Biologic we bring life to medicines and we reinvent categories to set in motion new standards.
My story is a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of standing firm in one's convictions, and the transformative impact of challenging conventional boundaries. Our natural compounds today are setting new standards; and they can help you stand out leveraging our peer-reviewed research to support your efforts.
The aging population is an irreversible global trend that is a crucial catalyst for market development. As per the WHO, the global aging population, i.e., people over 65, will double in the next two decades. These are key demographic targets for dietary supplement companies and contribute extensively to supplement demand. Although the highest sales are witnessed in the adult category (people aged 25 to 65), penetration is significantly higher in the geriatric population set. The 65-year-plus category contributed to roughly 30% of dietary supplement sales globally.
Preventive healthcare has been a buzz around major developed economies with people associating healthy living with better appearance and social persona. Dietary supplement makers have also contributed to improved customer awareness by stepping up their direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns. This kind of marketing emphasizes the development of new and improved efficacy and safety of existing ones, has successfully influenced a diverse group of consumers at several touchpoints and enhanced the legitimacy of these makers' contribution to preventative healthcare.
As we navigate the evolving landscape of the dietary supplements market, let us be guided by the lessons of persistence, innovation, and the unwavering belief in the mission that drives us. Together, with Biologic Pharmamedical as your partner, we can not only anticipate the future of health and wellness but actively shape it; and by working with us you not only get to ride the industry wave to 200 billion dollars; you also get to ride the wave we are creating as we reinvent these categories with new levels of activity.
