An Authorised Representative is a natural or legal person established within the Union who has received a written mandate from a manufacturer to act on its behalf in relation to specified tasks with regard to the manufacturer's obligations under the relevant Union harmonisation legislation or under the requirements of this regulation.

Under Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 , it is mandatory for businesses outside the EU selling products directly or indirectly to have an Authorised Representative (AR) located within the EU. This requirement ensures compliance with EU regulations and facilitates effective communication between the business and regulatory authorities. Similarly, in the UK market, an economic operator located within the UK is required for businesses selling products. Manufacturers based outside the UK must establish representation within the UK to comply with UK regulations and facilitate market access.
