$11.8 billion on Black Friday: How Did AI Make The Difference?

Angus Griffin

Black Friday is always a big economic boom in America, but this year it was dominated by AI searches and assistants. Find out how much of a difference AI made this year and how much Americans were spending.

Just How Much Was Spent

This year's Black Friday broke previous records for US online sales, with an increase of 9.1% over last year. The US alone spent $11.8 billion online in just one day. There was a lunch rush from 10 am to 2 pm ET, where $12.5 million was spent every minute.

How Did AI Help

This has been largely attributed to AI-driven traffic through the use of AI chatbots, assistants, and recommendation engines. Seeing an 805% increase in AI-driven traffic to retail sites compared to last year. AI tools are making it easier to compare prices and find an exact product, and streamlining the online shopping process significantly. With shoppers being more aware of what is available to them through the help of AI. Therefore, companies with better AI SEO would have been the biggest winners this Black Friday.

This was furthered by e-commerce sales rising 10.4% and in-store purchases growing by only 1.7%. A shift to online shopping has very much been established this year with the help of AI. This is also tied in with a change in buying habits; total spend was up by about 7% but the overall volume of an order was down.

This severe jump in AI-driven traffic is something that has to be capitalized on and utilized to continue the growing use of online shopping platforms. Whether it is through the use of SEO optimisation for AI or the implementation of chatbots and assistants for in-website transactions. Customers are relying on AI to help them shop, so you have to meet them in the market they are shopping in.

What Were People Buying

With purchasing trends leaning towards individual luxury electronics, accessories, and home appliances rather than multiple lower-priced items. There is a clear opportunity for high-end white-label products to capture more market share.

Adobe Analytics projects the holiday season’s US online sales to reach $253.4 billion following strong momentum from Black Friday. Making the next month one of the most important of the year. With White Label World Expo Las Vegas being such a success, in September, we know that all of our visitors left with new trend-setting products and will be making the most of this period.
